If Jun had been able to purr, he was sure that he would be doing so right now.

All of his many pillows were in the exact position to allow him to lay comfortably, and he was neither too hot nor too cold. Sho was still asleep, curved behind him with his arm draped protectively over his ever burgeoning belly. There was a slight stickiness between his thighs which reminded him of what they had been doing an hour or two earlier.

His libido stirred at the memory and he pressed his hips back so that he could trap Sho’s cock between their entwined bodies. His eyes squeezed shut with pleasure as he felt it thicken slightly in response, swelling slightly against his buttocks.

In the back of his mind, he checked for the reassuring spark of awareness which had been constantly there for the past few weeks. The connection to his unborn youngling was strengthening as the time to give birth grew nearer. At first he had been slightly unnerved by the slight fizzing sensation in his head, but had soon learned to interpret the variations in its intensity which signalled the moods and needs of his youngling. Right now, he could tell that they were sleeping, which meant that he could focus on his own needs, and those of his mate who was also now stirring from sleep.

Sho’s hand moved away from his belly and up to his nipples, making Jun squirm in anticipation; they had become so much more sensitive in the last few days.

At first Sho’s touch was feather light, barely skimming over the surface of his skin, until the two nubs hardened, sending tingles right down to his crotch. As Jun’s breathing quickened, Sho increased the pressure, rolling and squeezing his nipples between his fingers, alternating sides when he sensed that the sensation was becoming too much.

Sho’s fangs grazed the side of Jun’s neck as he hovered his mouth over his pulse point, breathing puffs of warm air against his skin. Automatically tilting his head slightly in a gesture of submission, Jun invited Sho to bite. Sho groaned, but resisted the temptation; he knew that Jun needed every drop of the precious fluid.

Jun had no such restrictions, and he hungered for the taste of his mate. His hand moved quickly, trapping Sho’s wrist and drawing it up to his mouth. He licked a long stripe up the tender skin on the inner part of Sho’s arm, enjoying the responding twitch of Sho’s cock. For a moment he rested the tip of his tongue against Sho’s pulse and felt his own heartbeat change in rhythm to match it precisely. The scent of Sho filled his nostrils as he bit down. His mouth was filled instantly with the taste of smoky dark bitter chocolate and his body thrummed with need.

Sho growled and adjusted the angle of Jun’s legs so that he could enter him without changing their positions. Jun moaned around Sho’s wrist as his body was breached. After the first hard thrust, Sho stilled as Jun finished feeding. Jun felt dizzy with desire as he swallowed a last mouthful of blood and felt it slide down his throat.

Frustrated by the lack of movement Jun tried to press back against Sho, but Sho gripped his hip and held him in place. Only after Jun relaxed, did Sho begin to move. The angle of their bodies only permitted shallow penetration and Sho compounded Jun’s frustration by withdrawing back quickly before sliding back in with exaggerated slowness.

Lulled by the gentle rocking motion, Jun felt himself drifting as he was enveloped in Sho's scent with Sho 's body wrapped around his. Sho was behind him, around him, and inside of him, and Jun had never felt more secure.

It took a long time for him to climax, and when he did, Jun let out a surprised breath at the intensity of his feelings. Sho filled him a minute later, stilling inside his body and remaining there for as long as he could.

Jun thought that he heard Sho murmur words of love as he cleaned his body, but by then he was already drifting back to sleep.

The space beside Jun was empty when he next woke. Sho had placed his pillow against Jun's back in his stead, and Jun pressed it to his nose to soak in the traces of Sho's scent which lingered on the pillowcase.

Beside the bed, there was a tray holding a thermos filled with synthetic blood, a cling film covered plate containing breakfast, a vase with a single sunflower, and a note from Sho covered with badly drawn love hearts.

The food held no interest, but Jun greedily drank from the thermos to relieve his dry throat and mouth. His youngling stirred in response, poking him sharply in the bladder, necessitating a hastily trip to the bathroom.

After washing his hands, Jun thought about getting dressed, but decided that he was more comfortable in his robe. On his shopping expedition with Aiba and Nino, he had stumbled upon a purple robe which was roomy enough to wrap all the way around his expanding waistline, and as soft as a cloud.

He picked up his glass of blood and made his way to the nursery, which was finally fully furnished and had now had thick carpeting in a deep shade of grey which acted as a foil to the warm shade of cream paint on the walls and the curtains which were sky blue and patterned with white clouds and rainbows.

He trailed his fingers over the frame of the cradle, and tried to imagine his youngling nestled inside, but the image wouldn't come. The room was the perfect place to bring his little one home to, but right now it felt too large and too light.

Jun moved restlessly from room to room, munching on a messy sandwich which he had constructed from the scrambled eggs and toast which formed part of his breakfast tray.

Ignoring the crumbs which were falling on the floor in a trail behind him, he walked along the corridor to the smallest spare room. It had the darkest colour scheme of all the bedrooms, as they hadn't yet replaced the dark burgundy wallpaper and black carpet left as a legacy by the previous inhabitants.

Something about the gloom appealed to Jun, and he felt drawn to enter. He finished his sandwich and placed the empty glass down on the floor outside the door before walking into the room, which was a little musty from disuse.

The window stuck slightly, but Jun managed to open it wide enough to allow the scent of night flowering jessamine to waft in and sweeten the air.

He slid open the door of the walk in wardrobe and immediately felt that this was the place he had been seeking. It was decorated in the same style as the bedroom, with dark rosewood drawers lining one wall. A single squishy armchair upholstered in slightly faded burgundy velvet sat abandoned in the corner. The space was large enough to lay down in and perfectly quiet. His instincts told him that there was no need to look any further; he just needed to make it comfortable.

As Jun walked silently through the ground floor, he could hear Sho and Aiba discussing business in Sho's study. At once he was filled with yearning for his mate, but the flicker in his mind which came from his youngling urged him to not be distracted from his task.

There was a large linen cupboard in the utility room and he filled his arms with as many blankets which he could safely carry without risking tripping up the stairs. As he passed the kitchen his stomach rumbled so he placed the blankets down and searched the refrigerator. There was a cling wrapped plate with two perfect pieces of raw steak on the middle shelf and his mouth watered as he ripped off the covering and bit into the soft flesh. He wolfed down the first one and placed the second in a zip lock bag to eat after his work was complete.

He managed to negotiate his way back upstairs without too much trouble, and stepped over the discarded plate and glass as he returned to the wardrobe. The blankets covered the entire floor in his chosen space, forming a base layer of softness. He grabbed the decorative pillows and cushions from the bed and carefully arranged them on top of the blankets. The space was still too bare, so he ventured into the other bedrooms, collecting pillows and cushions as he went.

After piling the pillows into his space Jun gave a satisfied nod and stroked his belly, where his youngling kicked. There was enough softness, but a distinct lack of the scent of his mate. To remedy this, Jun went to the master suite and gathered one of Sho’s pillows from the bed. He pressed it to his cheek, and breathed deeply. The scent was weak, but comforting.

Sho’s clothes were stored in a series of drawers and hangers in their shared wardrobe. Jun rummaged through Sho’s belongings, searching for the clothes which Sho wore most often around the house. After filling his arms with hooded sweatshirts and soft knitted pullovers, Jun returned to his space.

By the time he had arranged all of Sho’s belongings to his satisfaction, Jun was hungry again. He pulled the steak out of the plastic bag and swallowed it in a few bites. He regretted not bringing more food with him, but smiled when he remembered the remains of his breakfast in his bedroom.

The thermos had kept the remaining synthetic blood at the perfect temperature, so he retrieved the glass from the corridor and filled it to the brim. As he sipped, Jun went into the nursery and spotted the plush toys which Sho had purchased for their youngling. There was a small white rabbit and a unicorn. They were both pleasantly soft to the touch, so he gathered them in his free hand, and took them back with him to the spare room.

Jun had no idea what time it was, but the food had made him sleepy. He slid the door of the wardrobe closed from inside and curled up in the pile of pillows. He fell asleep almost as soon as his head touched Sho’s pillow, still clutching the white rabbit in his hand.

As Aiba collected the paperwork scattered across the desk, Sho stood up and stretched the stiffness out of his neck and shoulders. He glanced at his watch and was surprised to see that it was well past lunchtime. Now that Jun’s anaemia was stabilized, his appetite had returned, and he had recently taken charge of preparing lunch for the three of them.

“Grab yourself something to eat Aiba-chan, while I check on Jun. I guess he just doesn’t want to get out of bed tonight." Sho could sense that Jun was perfectly content and well, but he couldn’t help worrying anyway.

Aiba grinned and nodded. "He's just like my Emi; in the last few weeks of each of her pregnancies she was either a blur of activity or conked out asleep somewhere. I'll fix something for the three of us and bring it through to the dining room."

Aiba's cheerful demeanor calmed Sho slightly, but he still took the stairs two at a time on his way upstairs to find Jun.

The bedroom was empty, and so was the bathroom. Sho couldn’t sense Jun nearby, but he checked the nursery anyway to confirm that Jun wasn’t in there either. The rooms looked like they had been struck by a whirlwind, with drawers left open and stray items of clothing scattered across the floor. He picked up a stray sock and placed it on top of the dresser before continuing his search.

Once in the corridor Sho closed his eyes and stood perfectly still. He calmed his breathing and searched his mind for the thread which connected him with his mate. It felt wrong to call out to Jun; Sho could sense that right now he didn't wish to be disturbed. He still needed to see him with his own eyes though, just to reassure himself that all was well, and make sure that he remembered to eat lunch.

As he took a few steps, Sho felt that he was getting closer to Jun. The sight of his favourite scarf laying abandoned on the floor in front of the door to the smallest of their spare bedrooms was a tangible clue to Jun’s whereabouts.

The door was open, but when he looked inside Jun was nowhere to be seen. He caught traces of Jun’s sweet scent blended with the perfume of Jun’s favourite jessamine.

Sho’s sensitive hearing picked up a slight rustle coming from the walk-in wardrobe on the far side of the room. Not wanting to startle his mate, Sho slid the door open a crack and looked inside. At first all he could see was a mound of soft furnishings and clothing, but eventually he spotted Jun’s glossy hair fanning out on what looked suspiciously like his pillow from their bed.

Jun was curled up on his side underneath Sho’s bathrobe and a couple of Sho’s cardigans. He was fast asleep, with a white rabbit plush toy tucked under his chin.

Sho didn't know whether to coo or panic at the sight. With less than three weeks until Jun’s due date, it was obvious that he had begun constructing his nest.
