Jun turned towards Sho and glared dangerously. “Have you taken leave of your senses? Why on earth would I want to live here? It would be even worse than all of those depressing apartments we looked at with that terrible real estate agent.”
Sho laughed, and placed his hand on Jun’s cheek, turning Jun’s head to face through the windscreen. “Before you get too angry with me, take a look around you.”
Jun’s words of protest stuck in his throat as he took in his surroundings. Sitting directly in front of him was a two storey house which instantly reminded him of the cottage where he had spent the last two weeks. Despite having two floors rather than three, and a much larger floor plan, the house had the same aura of peace.
“This house was designed by the same architect who worked most recently on the cottage,” Sho said. He alighted from the car and walked around and opened the door on Jun’s side. “Come and see.”
Jun took a few steps, but before making his way to the dazzlingly beautiful house, he stopped and spun in a slow circle. He instantly regretted it, as for a few moments the trees continued to spin.
The gardens surrounding the building were equally as stunning. There were mature trees which stood higher than the house itself, and paths leading to secret corners screened by an abundance of shrubs and flowers. The sweetly alluring scent of a night blooming jessamine wafted from beside the path, and attracted Jun’s attention. He walked over and plucked a bracket of flowers and breathed in the heavy, sweet perfume. The odour calmed him, and the dizzy feeling dissipated.
Jun’s eyes had a soft lilac glow as he gazed at Sho. “How is this here? And more importantly, how did you ever find it?”
“You have Nino and Aiba-chan to thank for finding it. I didn’t want to drag you around and tire you out looking at properties which would probably turn out to be entirely unsuitable, so they offered to help.”
“Nino and Aiba? Together?” Jun wondered if hallucinations were another symptom of his pregnancy.
“Yes,” Sho replied smugly. “It turned out to be a stroke of genius on my part.”
“But Nino, and Aiba? Have they even ever been alone in a room together, let alone confined in a car? What if it had gone wrong?” Visions of disaster played in Jun’s mind, like a horror movie.
“Apparently they got along together just fine.” Sho could feel Jun’s dread and hastened to reassure him. “According to Aiba, they even had a little midnight picnic together overlooking the city as they watched the moon rise. He made it sound like a first date.”
Jun’s mind boggled at the thought of Nino on a date, but then he realised that he didn’t really know anything about Nino’s life outside of work. Although he had known Nino for decades, they had never really become closer, apart from their small shared moment at the hospital, and he made a mental note to fix that at the earliest opportunity. “But how did you organise all of this? I didn’t see you on your phone even once while we were away.”
“I spent a lot of time texting and emailing while you were sleeping. But it couldn’t have done it without help. Nino used his contacts and found some properties which he thought might be suitable. Since Aiba spends more time with us than anyone, he was the obvious choice to accompany him.” Sho hadn’t really stopped to consider Aiba’s feelings in the matter, and wondered if he had traumatised the human by pairing him with the Council agent. “I probably should have given the matter deeper thought, but I was desperate to find a new home for you and our youngling. I will apologise to Aiba-chan when he returns to work tomorrow.”
“Yes please, and I think he also deserves a bonus for a job well done, and as compensation for probably being scared to pieces by Nino.”
“As you soon will see, Aiba has been more than compensated for his stress,” Sho replied with a mysterious smile.
Jun ran his fingertips over the tubular flowers of the jessamine and gave Sho a look of mild frustration. “Can you please stop talking in riddles?”
Sho took Jun’s hand and squeezed his fingers. “Sorry, Pet. I forgot that you're tired.” He tucked Jun’s hand into the crook of his elbow and steered him onto the gravel path which wound around the side of the house. “Before we look inside, let me show you what I am talking about.”
Too tired, and too confused to argue, Jun allowed himself to be led through the garden to the back of the property. On the way to wherever Sho was taking him, he noticed a koi pond and beds of perfumed roses. There were many features which warranted further inspection, but Sho tugged him onwards, preventing him from stopping and taking a better look.
The block of land surrounding the house was much larger than Jun expected, but they soon reached the high wall at the back which matched the drab grey wall which had offered Jun his first view of the property. From inside though, its forbidding appearance was softened by greenery and espaliered fruit trees. Apparently the wall ringed the house, offering complete privacy and security to those who lived within. The house had clearly been designed for vampires who wanted to be safe, but not feel oppressed by the steel bars and heavy shutters which were a feature of so many other properties.
“Does this mean that we don’t need to have guards stationed at our front door?” Jun asked hopefully.
“Sorry, but the guards will remain, although they will be mostly outside of the walls,” Sho replied firmly, dashing Jun’s hopes. “The Vampire Council would never allow you to be left unprotected, and neither would your brother or I. This wall just adds an extra layer of security.”
Jun sighed and looked further along the wall, where behind a row of tall poplar trees there appeared to be a door. “Where does that lead?”
“To Aiba-chan,” Sho said with a grin as he punched numbers into a keypad on the door.
“Aiba-chan? Through there? I'm not in the mood for jokes,” Jun warned as he rubbed the base of his spine and grimaced.
Sho moved Jun’s hand out of the way, and massaged the small of his back with his fingers as he ushered him through the doorway.
****
He didn't know what he’d been expecting, but Jun was slightly disappointed. “It’s another house.”
The house was single storied and painted a cheerful shade of blue. Instead of the lush gardens of the first house, this one was surrounded by a lawn with a children’s play area consisting of swings, slides, and a trampoline in the corner.
“It’s not just any house. It’s Aiba’s house,” Sho said with a grin.
Jun’s substantial eyebrows rose in surprise. “We bought Aiba-chan a house?”
“At the moment we technically own both properties, but I have our lawyers preparing the paperwork to transfer this house to Aiba. Fortunately when I contacted the estate agent to obtain the particulars of our house, the brochures she emailed me also listed this one, which is suitable for a large human family. Nino organized the construction of the doorway between the two, and this is the result. It must have been hard for Aiba-chan since he started his family. Working at night and having a long commute between our apartment and his, doesn't leave him with much free time.”
Jun’s eyes shone with love, as he looked at the perfect house and then back at Sho. “Just when I thought I couldn’t love you any more than I already do.”
Sho drew Jun into his arms and held him close enough to feel the beating of his heart. Jun’s eyes once again glowed with the soft lilac shade which Sho had never seen before this day, drawing him in so that the rest of the world faded into the background.
****
Keeping a firm grip on Sho’s hand, Jun walked around the other side of their new house along another perfectly maintained gravel pathway. On this side of the garden there was an octagonal gazebo with wrought iron posts and a tiled roof. The whole structure was covered with Japanese star jasmine which was in full bloom. The scent from the hundreds of highly fragrant star-shaped cream flowers filled the air, and Jun already knew that the padded bench seat in the middle of the structure would become one of his favourite places to relax on mild evenings.
A yawn escaped from Jun, defying his attempt to stifle it, and his steps slowed, as he tried to catch his breath. Sho was instantly on alert. “Come, Pet. Your hand is as cold as ice. Let's get you inside. I'm not sure if all of our furniture has arrived yet, but I will find you somewhere to sit.”
“I still don't know how this was all achieved in only two weeks. Doesn't it usually take longer than this to purchase a house?”
Sho began walking again as he replied. “Not if you have a Vampire Council agent and the Crown Prince of the Royal House of Matsumoto dealing with the sellers.”
Jun jerked to a sudden stop. “Please tell me that Satoshi and Nino didn't threaten them.”
“Of course not. Maybe scared them a little…”
“Sho!”
Sho hastened to reassure his mate. “I’m joking. I merely meant that they used all of the resources available to them to cut through the red tape. Don't worry, we paid a very fair price for both properties. And as they were both already empty, you don't have to worry about Nino throwing anyone out on the streets.”
“Sometimes I hate that you can read my mind,” Jun complained.
“Really?” Sho asked, and raised an eyebrow.
“No.” Jun admitted with a slight blush.
****
“The house has six bedrooms, all of which are large and airy, but the one that I think should be our master suite is along here, I think,” Sho said, as he consulted the floor plan on his phone.
Jun stuck his head into every room that he passed on the upper level, and found that they had large windows and good proportions. The decor wasn't exactly to his taste as it leaned towards his father's gloomy style in carpet and wallpaper, but that could easily be mended.
Sho opened the double doors of the master bedroom and allowed Jun to enter first. The curtains were drawn back offering a perfect view of the rose garden and koi pond. The white blooms of the roses glowed in the moonlight, moving slightly in the light breeze.
The room itself lacked furnishings, but it was large and yet still cosy, with a walk in wardrobe which could easily contain all of the clothes belonging to both of them. The attached bathroom was newly renovated and had a bathtub big enough for two and a double shower.
Sho held his breath as he asked, “Like it?”
Jun’s frown told Sho that something was not quite right. “It is perfect for us, but what about our youngling?”
Sho hastily pointed to another door. “There is an attached dressing room, which would make a perfect nursery.”
The dressing room had a smaller window, but the same beautiful view and Jun was satisfied that once properly decorated, his youngling would be more than comfortable until old enough to move to the nearest separate bedroom.
“Upstairs is fine, but what about the rest of the house?” Jun asked. There was something nagging at him, giving him the feeling that something was amiss. But what exactly that was, he couldn't yet decide.
“I think you will find it just as perfect.” Sho led Jun downstairs, where some of their furniture had already been placed. His office was fully furnished; obviously Aiba had been hard at work. It was larger than his previous space, with built-in shelving on the wall behind his desk.
There was another room next door, unfurnished as yet, with French doors leading out to a courtyard enclosed by a low wall. “This is definitely going to be my room. This way I can keep track of what you and Satoshi are up to with the Vampire Council,” Jun said, as he contemplated the furniture he would need to buy to make the room his own.
“Are you sure that's a good idea? You already seem to be rather tired. I don't want you straining yourself further.” Sho replied with a frown. For the last few days of their holiday, Jun’s strength had noticeably diminished, forcing him to retire to bed long before sunrise.
Jun scowled and showed a hint of fang. “I hardly think that listening to you two discuss Council matters is going to be physically taxing. On the other hand, listening to the inevitable bickering between the pair of you, might be considered to be an emotional hazard.”
“We haven't bickered in weeks,” Sho protested.
“Only because Satoshi has been making himself scarce in order to avoid conflict between the two of you.” Jun missed his brother and the emotional closeness which they had once shared, which had dissipated as his mating bond had settled into his heart and mind.
The pain which Jun felt gnawed at Sho’s heart. “I'm sorry Pet. Although Satoshi and I try to grow closer, it seems inevitable that we both resent your affection for the other.”
Jun turned to gaze out onto the garden, as the feeling that something was off-kilter clouded his thoughts. “It isn't your fault alone. Perhaps if Satoshi himself was mated, he might be able to understand more clearly the mental and physical changes which a bonded pair go through. At this point though, he appears perfectly happy to remain unmated, and our father is apparently content to not interfere. Not because Father saw the error of his ways in forcing me into a mateship not of my own choosing, but because through that forced mating, he has already strengthened and increased the wealth of the House of Matsumoto through his alliance with the Sakurai Royal Family.”
Anger fizzed in Sho’s chest at Jun’s words, and couldn't help but ask. “After all we have experienced together, and while you carry my unborn youngling, you regret our mating?”
“NEVER!” Jun’s heart thudded, and he felt faint as he felt a slight pain in his chest.. He had no idea what was happening to him, and why he was saying, or even thinking those words. The decision to accept the mating had been his, and his alone. “I don't know why I said that. I love you and have never regretted our union; not even for one second. I don't understand what's wrong with me.”
As his distress washed over Sho, he took Jun in his arms and pressed him to his chest, hoping to calm the frantic beating of his heart. “You are overtired, that's all.”
“I think I need you to make love to me,” Jun said softly.
“Here? When you are already tired?” Sho tilted Jun's head, so that he could see him more clearly. There were dark shadows under his eyes and his skin looked yellowish in the moonlight filtering through the uncovered window.
Jun nodded and the lilac shade glimmered for a brief moment in his eyes, which appeared even larger than usual in his pinched face.
Sho was immediately worried, and although he could sense nothing more than exhaustion and a strange feeling of melancholy issuing from Jun at that moment, he hastened to ask, “Is our youngling well? Are you in pain? Do I need to call Oguri-sensei?”
“Our youngling is fine.” A faint smile lifted the corners of Jun’s plump lips. “And sex is Shun-sensei’s prescription to cure everything, remember?”
Sho smiled in return and kissed Jun tenderly, covering the lips that he knew so well with a series of gentle kisses. Jun’s frantic heartbeat slowed as Sho stroked his back and threaded his fingers through his hair, supporting his head as he deepened the kiss.
Jun stroked his fingers over Sho’s crotch with light, slow strokes, awakening his desires and his cock, which hardened against his hand. He laughed against Sho’s mouth before drawing back from their kiss. “It seems as if you have come around to my way of thinking.”
“Since it is for medical purposes…” Sho’s words ended in a gasp, as Jun slid his hand down the front of his trousers and took him into his hand.
Jun’s eyes glowed with his usual purple fire as he tugged down Sho’s zip and freed his erection. He knelt and delicately ran only the very tip of his tongue over Sho’s swelling cock, tracing the pulsing vein which ran along its entire length. He deliberately kept his eyes locked with Sho’s as he took him into his mouth, and began to suck.
A crimson flame flickered in Sho’s eyes as he watched Jun take him in so well, until he could feel the tip of his cock touching the back of Jun’s throat. He wanted to thrust hard and take possession of his mate, using him as his will demanded, but he restrained himself, and allowed Jun to do as he wished.
Greedily, Jun sucked hard, bobbing his head for a few minutes before digging his claws into Sho’s buttocks. Surprised by this sudden manoeuvre, Sho cried out and came in Jun’s mouth. Jun mewled with satisfaction as he swallowed, not allowing a single drop of the precious fluid to be wasted.
“That was not what I had in mind,” Sho said as he struggled to regulate his breathing.
Jun smirked and licked a stray drop of white from the corner of his mouth. “Maybe not, but that was exactly what I needed.” He pressed himself against Sho, rubbing up against him like a satisfied cat. “Now you may use me as you will.”
Jun peeled off his clothes and tossed them on the floor. He leaned in and fastened his lips upon Sho’s mouth as he slowly undid the buttons on Sho’s shirt. The pressure of Jun’s erection pressing against his thigh, and the taste of himself on Jun’s lips soon awakened Sho’s cock from its half-hard state.
The carpet was soft beneath Jun’s back as Sho gently laid him down on the floor. Sho hastily kicked off his trousers and underwear and joined Jun, straddling his hips and placing a hand on either side of his head. “Pet, I have only ever loved you. There has never been anyone else who touched my heart, even through the years of our estrangement.”
This time Jun’s eyes displayed a stunning shade of lavender as he replied, “I hated you for what I thought you had done, and yet still secretly loved you. Deep down, I think I was always waiting for you.”
When Sho entered Jun, he did so slowly and then stilled his movements, looking into Jun’s eyes, so that they joined together in body and mind.
****
A small noise of protest came out of Jun as Sho handed him his clothes. He was too satisfied, and too relaxed, to consider moving. Fortunately the water was already connected, and Sho had been able to clean Jun up with his handkerchief after wetting it with warm water in the bathroom.
“You can't stay on the floor all day, Pet. Your back will be destroyed. We need to get home by sunrise so you can get some proper sleep.”
Jun stretched and winced as a cracking sound came from somewhere in his neck. “I suppose you are right.” He sighed and held out his hand so that Sho could help him to stand and get dressed. “I haven’t even managed to see the rest of the house yet.”
“We can come back tomorrow, once you are sufficiently rested.” Sho’s attempt to steer Jun out of the house failed as his mate pulled away and made his way through the empty downstairs rooms.
Jun found a snug room next to the kitchen, which would be a perfect workspace for Aiba. It was already painted a delicate shade of green, which was the human’s favourite colour. He could picture the walls covered with artwork from Aiba’s children, who, by the videos Aiba was fond of showing to everyone, were cheerful and noisy.
A smile played across Jun’s face as he wondered what his own youngling would be like; serious like Sho, or sensitive like himself. Whatever their personality, Jun was determined to make sure that his vampling would always know that they were loved. There would be no repeat of his own frosty upbringing.
Jun knew that they all could be happy here in this place. The house was beautiful, and the garden a delight, but still the prickling feeling on the back of his neck which continued to give him the feeling that something wasn't quite right, unsettled him. He could sense none of that feeling of unease in Sho, and decided to keep his fears to himself. There was no point in giving Sho cause to worry.
Sho wrapped his arms around Jun’s waist and kissed the side of his neck. “Are you ready to go now? It is long past dinner time, and you must be hungry.”
“I hadn't realized,” Jun leaned back against Sho. His stomach rumbled loudly, as if it had overheard them talking about food, and his youngling squirmed and kicked, adding its demands to those of his stomach.
“Well, it certainly seems as if our youngling has.” Sho laughed as he felt a sharp jab against the palm of his hand where it rested on Jun’s belly.
Shrugging off the strange feeling, Jun joined in with Sho’s laughter and took his hand, leading him towards the front door.
A sudden noise inside the house stopped Jun in his tracks, and Sho stepped protectively in front of him with fangs bared.
They were not alone.
