Genre: fluff
Disclaimer: I own neither Christmas nor Arashi
Summary:
"You have a lot of ice cream here," he said, gesturing towards the display case.
"Well, yes we do, since this is an ice cream shop," Nino said, over emphasizing the ice cream part.
A/N: Welcome to my random Arashi Christmas Drabbles - each under 1000 words long. How many there will be is also random β depending on my level of Christmasosity (and yes I know thatβs not a word, perhaps that's why it's hard to say).
He was there again. It was the third morning in a row that the small hunched figure had been sitting in the entranceway of the empty building opposite the shop where Nino worked.
If he was homeless then he was extremely well dressed for a life outdoors. The coat he wore was thick and expensive looking, much better than Nino's own thin coat that he had been meaning to replace for the last two years. He always seemed to have other priorities though, and he only remembered when the icy wind started to blow at the beginning of each December.
Nino had plenty of time to contemplate the stranger and his possible life. Working in an ice cream shop in winter wasn't exactly a taxing job. He had even found himself naming the small brown spider that dangled from a tiny and discreet web in the corner of the back room. He was always very careful to not accidentally suck Fang into the hose of the vacuum cleaner on cleaning day.
As he gazed across the road he accidentally caught the eye of the stranger and instinctively ducked out of sight behind the counter his face blushing a deep red at being caught looking.
Before he could stand there was a ping from the bell over the door. He desperately hoped that is wasn't who he thought it would be, but of course it was. As he continued to crouch on the floor he noticed that the guy was wearing really nicely shined boots as well.
A voice issued from the other side of the counter. "Um, are you okay down there? I just happened to see you through the window and it looked like you dropped down really fast. I thought you might have fainted or something."
Knowing that he would only look even more ridiculous if he stayed on the floor, Nino stood up and found himself looking into a pair of concerned dark brown eyes, set in slightly chubby face.
"I..um...dropped something," Nino mumbled.
"Oh, okay then," the stranger mumbled as he looked around vaguely. "You have a lot of ice cream here," he said, gesturing towards the display case.
"Well, yes we do, since this is an ice cream shop," Nino said, over emphasizing the ice cream part.
The strange man looked as if he was about to speak, when a large and expensive black car pulled up outside. "Ah, my ride is here, but I will definitely be back for some ice cream tomorrow."
Nino could only nod bemusedly, waiting until he was gone before rolling his eyes.
But next morning the man, Ohno Satoshi, as Nino would subsequently find out, was already waiting outside the door when he arrived to open up.
"You must really like ice cream or something," Nino said.
"Or something."
++++
It turned out that Ohno had just purchased the building opposite and was figuring out what to make of it when he'd been sitting in the doorway.
Nino had plenty of time to find this out because Ohno insisted on coming by every morning claiming that it was his intention to try every flavour in the shop, one at a time.
While he sat before a bowl of slowly melting ice cream Ohno didn't ever say much, merely listening as Nino complained about his roommate Aiba or talked of his ambitions that stretched beyond working in this small shop.
Nino had no idea why he was even telling the quiet man any of these things. He had never told anyone his private thoughts like this before.
Soon it was the twenty-third of December and Ohno was on the last flavour. Nino's heart clenched at the thought of never seeing him again.
"I guess that's it. I've worked my way through them all," Ohno said regretfully as he gathered his coat.
"Unless..." Nino began.
"Unless?"
"Unless you come to my place for dinner tomorrow night?"
A slow smile lit up Ohno's face as he nodded vigorously, "I thought you'd never ask. You have no idea how much I hate ice cream; it makes my teeth hurt."
"So extra large ice cream sundaes for dessert then?" Nino said with a laugh.
"Oh, I don't think so. There's something else that I'd much rather have," Ohno replied with a dark look that made Nino feel hot all over.
"Merry Christmas to me," Nino murmured under his breath as a smile slowly spread across his face.
